Implementation of EIGRP Protocol On IP Network

Work: The project entitled as “Implementation of EIGRP protocol on IP network” uses Hybrid Routing. EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) is a Cisco Proprietary Hybrid Routing Protocol. The configuration of EIGRP is similar to other Routing Protocols. In this project, we will configure EIGRP on Packet Tracer. EIGRP is used to share routes within the same autonomous system and it only sends incremental updates in order to reduce the workload on the router and data transmission. EIGRP replaced IGRP in 1993 due to the switch to classless IPv4. EIGRP looks at characteristics such as bandwidth, load, delay, relay ability, MTU, and hop count to make the best routing decision.

Impact:

  • EIGRP is a Cisco Proprietary Hybrid Routing Protocol and is an advanced distance-vector routing protocol used on a computer network to automate routing decisions and configuration.
  • EIGRP only sends incremental updates, reducing the workload on the router and the amount of data that needs to be transmitted.
  • EIGRP can look at many different characteristics such as bandwidth, load, delay, reliability, MTU, and hop count to make a decision on what the best route might be to a location.
  • EIGRP has been developed on Cisco Packet tracer 7.2 to be implemented on IP networks.
